about

About the Album
This album features 9 songs from the Great American Songbook, and my Dad (with some input from my Mom) helped me to determine which ones to record. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy to choose! These Foolish Things (H.Marvell, J. Strachey, and H. Link), Begin The Beguine (C. Porter & M. Grever), Night And Day (C. Porter), Bye Bye Blackbird (R. Henderson & M. Dixon), The Lady Is A Tramp ( R. Rodgers & L. Hart) were all songs I used to hum along to as a kid, sitting in the backseat of my Dad’s station wagon as my parents would drive and listen to radio shows called Friday With Frank or Sunday With Sinatra. As a family we would go to a big hotel with a huge nightclub in New York’s Catskill Mountains called The Concord from Christmas to New Years (for 11 years in a row- think of me as “Baby” in that movie Dirty Dancing!). My family and I would sit in the lobby or in one of the cocktail lounges watching couples dance to great bands playing songs like How High The Moon (M. Lewis & N. Hamilton), All Or Nothing At All (A. Altman & J. Lawrence), and The Best Is Yet To Come (Cy Coleman & C. Leigh). When I went away to art school I would play endlessly beautiful love songs such as Why Try To Change Me Now (C. Coleman & J.A. McCarthy) at 2am in the painting studio. The whole project was recorded live, by the way, and in just one day by Dave Gordon at Saturn Studio, in Evanston, IL. Each song was completed in 2-3 takes, and singing with this band was an absolute dream. The CD was then beautifully mixed and mastered by the very talented Scott Gerow at Battery Lane Music in Nashville, TN.
